How much will I save by switching?

While it depends on the current economy, as well as how much you are paying currently, many Europeans have saved around $400 by switching to find the cheapest online deals. Some Americans have saved a similar number, just by switching companies! In summary, while it depends on the current situation, considering it would only take under 3-4 hours to complete the switch completely, you’re pretty much getting paid $100+ per hour to switch companies. While a saving of $400 per year may not seem like a substantial amount initially, if you are saving $400 per year, over a span of 30 years, you would have saved yourself a grand total of $12,000! Switching companies will undoubtedly save you lots in the long term.

What company should I switch to?

While instinct may tell us to immediately contact some of the big wigs of the industries, try using a company such as Energy Shop (http://www.energyshop.com/) to help you find the best local gas and electricity deals. Energy Shop allows you compare prices for your home, as well as business gas prices. Companies such as PG & E have been known for being caught doing scandals in the public eye, so unless you find that they have the cheapest prices in your area, I wouldn’t recommend them. It is never a bad idea to conduct a small amount of research; perhaps 10-15 minutes worth, before you decide what company you want to switch to, as you do not want to loose money! Know that when you switch companies, your current supply of electricity will not be interrupted.

When and how should I switch?

Switch now! If you are approaching winter, it is strongly recommended that you look into switching companies, as winter is the time of the year when your thermostat is up, and your gas fireplace is chugging down the gas. Make sure that you do not procrastinate when you switch gas and electricity companies, for you do not want to loose your hard earned money to these companies!

In terms of how to switch companies, try using a company called Money Supermarket (http://www.moneysupermarket.com/). They allow you to easily switch and compare companies all online. While the whole process may seem long and complicated, it is not. It only takes 4-6 weeks to complete, doing it all online and not having to go through the hassle of being put on hold by some major corporation with poor customer service takes a great weight off your shoulders. Money Supermarket receives good customer feedback and is strongly recommended to help aid you in the process of switching companies.

Any other important information?

Yes. Know that you can switch gas and electricity companies as often as you would like. If using a company such as Money Supermarket to help you find the best deals when comparing prices, the process of finding a better deal then the one you have currently should take more then thirty minutes. If you are in debt with your current energy supplier, then your current supplier has the right to object your choice to switch to a cheaper, better company. If you pay all outstanding payments, however, let the savings begin. A very important piece of information to know is that you can receive an even better deal (this means more savings!) if you purchase gas and electricity from the same company; this is called “duel fuel.” Energy suppliers love the duel fuel option because it brings them more business, and you love the duel fuel option because it brings you more savings! Keep and eye out for it.

Summary

I hope landing on this page has taught you all the information you needed to know related to switching companies. Switching is not a very hard process, and is a simple way to save you tons of money over the long term. Enjoy your savings!
